Key Words

Penance and Reconciliation: the sacrament in which we receive and celebrate God's forgiveness of our sins.

conscience: God's gift that helps us know right from wrong.

contrition: being sorry for our sins and promising not to sin again.

confession: telling our sins to the priest in the Sacrament of Penance

penance: a prayer or a kind act we od to make up for our sins

absolution: God's forgiveness of our sins by the priest in the Sacrament of Penance

 

  ACT OF CONTRITION

MY GOD, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong and falling to do good,

I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with our help, to do penance, to sin no more,

and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.

(1=5 after, 2=10 after, 3=15 after {quarter after because the hands moved 1/4 of the way around the clock}, 4=20 after, 5= 25 after, 6=30 after(half-past) , 7=35 after or 25 of the next hour, 8=40 after or 20 of the next hour, 9=45 after or quarter of the next hour, 10= 50 after or 10 of the next hour, 11=55 after or 5 of the next hour, 12= the next hour o'clock
